Welcome to The Arctic One Foundation
About Us
The Arctic One Foundation was launched in November 2011 to coincide with co-founder Matt Kirby running the Antarctic Half Marathon and ‘The Arctic One Foundation’ became a Charity in its own right (Registered Charity 1149536) in October 2012. The Charity is based in Chesham, Bucks.
Arctic One believes that sport should be accessible to all and aims to provide people, groups and clubs with disabilities the opportunity to get involved in sport and become more active. The charity, which is entirely run the volunteers, mainly achieves this through their events and their “Forward Motion” grant system.
Since 2011, Arctic One has significantly grown and developed and now provides several events that are fully inclusive to all. The Tri and paratri festival is held annually, attracting a range of people of all abilities from complete novices to Paralympians. The event has been lucky to host the British Paratriathlon Championships along side this. The event is unique in the UK with a range of distances and options available to ensure everyone can take part.
The Junior paratriathlon remains the only event in the UK exclusively for children with any disability to have a go at triathlon with a flexible format that encourages all participants to have a go. The event is free to participate in and welcomes children from all over the country.
We offer a range of additional challenges and training days to give people the opportunity to become more active. We run several virtual challenges to enable 100's of people to set their own goals towards becoming more involved in sport. We are currently running a Billion Metre challenge (see the New items for the latest details).
In 2015, we launched our “Forward Motion” grant system to enable people with disabilities to get involved or pursue sport. The money raised has been used to purchase prosthetic limbs, general and sports specific equipment such as racing chairs and handcycles with several hundred recipients so far!
Our Trustees work together to ensure Arctic One achieves its aims and develop the Charity to its full potential and are very proud to be able to give 100% of donations and fundraising that we receive to people who need it..
Our Vision and Mission
The Arctic One Foundation is not just about raising money, it is about providing opportunities to people of all abilities involved in sport and more active. We believe that everyone has the ability to enjoy sport in some way and that everyone should be given the opportunity to take part if they wish to.
We hope that in some way you will get involved with Arctic One’s Projects and Events and help make a difference.
Objectives:
Empower, motivate and inspire people through sport.
Provide Adaptive Equipment and financial support where possible to groups and individuals to help them achieve their sporting goals.
Establish open training days, events and challenges to enable, engage and encourage those with all abilities and disabilities to try a variety of sports and events with both training and coaching.
Arctic One is proud to have no employees and we rely on a team on volunteers to help with running the charity and the events.
ARCTIC ONE AIMS TO GIVE OPPORTUNITIES
to both able bodied and disabled people to enable them to “Get Involved” in Sport. Our trustees who all assist with the running of the charity along with several ambassadors who support Arctic One at the events and raise awareness and support through their own networks. The ambassadors are chosen as they embody the spirit of Arctic One and are passionate about helping others to get involved in sport.
